Authorship Criteria
Authorship Criteria
Jurnal Kesehatan Mesencephalon follows the authorship recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authorship credit is based on substantial scholarly contribution to the work. All persons listed as authors must meet all four of the following criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; and
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and
- Final approval of the version to be published; and
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors.
Authorship Order
The order of authors should be a joint decision of all co-authors, agreed upon before submission of the manuscript. Mesencephalon does not arbitrate authorship disputes; any disagreement about authorship or authorship order must be resolved by the authors themselves.
Corresponding Author
The corresponding author is the individual who takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during manuscript submission, peer review, and publication. The corresponding author must ensure that all listed authors have approved the final manuscript, have agreed to its submission, and are kept informed of all editorial correspondence. These responsibilities continue after publication, including responding to inquiries about the work and coordinating any corrections.
Changes to Authorship After Submission
Any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names after submission requires the written approval of all authors, including any author being added or removed, and the approval of the Editor-in-Chief. The request must be accompanied by a clear written explanation of the reasons for the change. After publication, changes to the authorship list are published as a correction only in exceptional circumstances.
Acknowledgements
Contributors who do not meet all four authorship criteria — for example, those who provided technical help, writing assistance, or general support — should not be listed as authors. With their permission, they may be named in the Acknowledgements section of the article.
Prohibited Practices
Guest authorship and gift authorship — naming as an author any individual who has not made a substantial contribution to the work — are strictly prohibited. If authorship misconduct is established, the Editor-in-Chief may reject the manuscript or retract the published article, following the COPE flowcharts.
