Abstract

While  the  surgical  team  aims  to  prevent  harm  to  patients,  incidents
resulting in negative outcomes, including severe injury or even death, do still
occur. This study aims to investigate the correlation between nurses' attitudes
and  their  compliance  to  the  surgical  safety  checklist  within  the  operating
theatre.  The  research  employs  a  correlational  analytical  design  with  a  crosssectional approach, with a total sampling method applied. The population under
consideration  comprises  all  nurses  working  in  the  surgical  unit  of  Prof.  Dr.
Soekandar  Mojokerto  Hospital.  Data  collection  was  conducted  using
questionnaires,  and  analysis  was  performed  through  chi-square  tests  and  the
contingency coefficient. The statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.003 for
attitude, thus supporting the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). This
finding  suggests  a  significant  relationship  between  nurses'  attitudes  and  their
compliance  with  the  surgical  safety  checklist  in  the  operating  room,  with  a
correlation coefficient of 0.644. Consequently, nurses' attitudes have a notable
impact  on  their  adherence  to  the  surgical  safety  checklist,  which  is  vital  for
safeguarding  both  nurses  and  patients.  Ensuring  patient  safety  is  of  utmost
importance and should be prioritised by healthcare professionals in the delivery
of health services.
