Abstract
Hypertension commonly affects the elderly because blood pressure
tends to increase after the age of 40 and continues to rise over time.
Hypertensive pain can at times feel very uncomfortable, and the discomfort that
arises can interfere with productivity. This study used a case study method. The
authors followed the nursing process, which includes assessment, data analysis,
nursing interventions, implementation, and evaluation. In the assessment, the
authors used data collection techniques such as anamnesis, observation,
documentation study, and physical examination. This study explores nursing
care for acute pain with the intervention of progressive muscle relaxation
therapy in elderly patients with hypertension. The therapy was provided in three
face-to-face sessions with direct tutorials. In clients 1 and 3, the pain scale
decreased from 4 before the intervention to 1 after the intervention; in client 2,
it decreased from 5 to 1. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is a nonpharmacological intervention that is easy to perform independently by patients
experiencing hypertensive pain. It can be concluded that progressive muscle
relaxation therapy can reduce pain levels in patients with hypertension.
